This newsletter from aboutmalta.com appeared for the first time in October 2000. We have now been producing this monthly online publication for seven continuous years. Our opt-in only subscriber base has swelled considerably from just a few hundreds to thousands of internet users.

Since our first edition, the aboutmalta.com newsletter has been delivered to our subscribers regularly, without fail, every single month. We also publish special editions from time to time, such as Christmas or during elections.

30 YEARS AGO (5 October 1977)
University students protesting because the medical course did not open on October 3 chain themselves to the railings at the Prime Minister's office in Castile Place, while other Students clash with the Police.

25 YEARS AGO (11 October 1982)
Early morning violent storm with wind velocity of 72 knots, (the highest ever recorded on the islands) causes heavy damage, four deaths and 19 injuries, some serious, in various parts of Malta.

10 YEARS AGO (3 October 1997)
Education Minister Evarist Bartolo announces three proposals to amend the stipends system:(a) a loan scheme to students to pay University fees, repayment of loans will be effected after students start work; (b) a part loan and a part stipend scheme to students to pay University fees, and only the loan will have to be repaid; (c) a stipend scheme to cover tuition fees but part of the stipend will have to be repaid once students start work. Students strongly opposed these proposals.

Choral Concert of Sacred Music
The New Choral Singers, under the musical direction of Robert Calleja, present a choral concert of sacred music at St. John's Co-Cathedral in Valletta at 7.30pm. The Choir will be accompanied by the St. James Consort orchestra led by Sarah Spiteri. Entrance is free of charge.

A Military Tatoo at Ta' Qali featuring the Central Military Band of the Ministry of Defence of the Russian Federation, Dutch Pipes and Drums with Highland Dancers, 1st Hamrun Scouts Duke of Argyll's Own Band, Durham ACF Borneo Band, Wallace Pipes and Drums Band, EnKor Choir Malta, Malta Police Band, Malta Police Precision Team and the Armed Forces of Malta Band.

Blast...Having a Great Time
Żgħażagħ Azzjoni Kattolika Birżebbuġa presents a new musical with tunes from the 60s and 80s; a live band to accompanies the singing and dancing. The show starts at 7:30pm.
