September is a historically significant month for Malta. On the 8th of September 1565 Ottoman forces retreated from Malta following defeat at the hands of the Maltese and the Knights of St John in the Great Siege. On the same day, but in 1943 during the Second World War, Fascist Italy surrendered to the Allies and the Italian Fleet came to anchor at St. Paul's Bay. September is also related to the Maltese insurrection against the French, beginning on the 2nd of September 1798 and ending in victory for Malta and its British ally on the 5th of September 1800. And it was on 21 September 1964 that Malta acquired independence from Britain.Outside Malta, September has come to mark the most horrendous terrorist attack in the United States. To mark the fourth anniversary since September 11, 2001, the MaltaMedia Online Network is offered as series of podcasts featuring the webcasts we produced following the 9/11 attacks. This is the world's first podcasting series in Maltese; it gives us great pride to offer this service to podcast listeners worldwide.
I have written about podcasting in general and about our 9/11 series on my blog. If you listen to any of our podcasts, please let us know what you think. We're planning other podcasts from the MaltaMedia Online Network in the coming months.

a. Lanċa Ġejja u Oħra Sejra: Malta and its migrations
Malta's stategic position in the Mediterranean Sea has given it a long, interesting history of migration. Emigration was a significant aspect of Maltese life in the last century, however, Malta is also a magnet for all sorts of immigrants. Most recently, the plight of irregular immigrants from various countries seeking a better life in Europe has become an almost daily topic in the news, especially because very few are actually granted refugee status. Over a thousand have reached the Maltese islands this year alone.MaltaMedia is in the final stages of production on a special feature about Malta and its migrations. Subscribers to the aboutmalta.com are being given an exclusive preview of the feature, still under construction.
