Colorful Maltese costumes, music, dancing, food, and good cheer will be in abundance at the Malta Club in Mississauga, in the greater Toronto area, as the Bank of Valletta stages a Maltese weekend in Canada this coming September 30 - October 2, 1999. BOV - Vice-President, Mr. Albert E. Vella is coordinating the festive event which is intended to be a supportive and fun affair for Maltese-Canadian/American communities. The general public will also be invited to attend this lively introduction to the islands as an incentive for those who have not yet had a chance to visit Malta and Gozo, and a celebration for those who have.

Representatives of The OTS Foundation will be on hand with presentations about the islands' important prehistoric heritage and several videotaped lectures recorded at the "Malta Expo" held in Sarasota, Florida last year. Information will be available about new conservation strategies for Malta's megalithic temples. The National Tourist Office will also be able to answer general questions and provide materials for potential new travelers to Malta.

The decorated hall at the Malta Club will feature traditional dishes in the restaurant and a photographic exhibition by the Valletta Summer Academy students. Booths will display various Maltese-related arts, materials, books, etc. Representatives of Gozo Glass are expected to attend with original mouthblown pieces from Gozo which will be available for purchase. Entertainment will include the Maltese Junior Band, the Malta Band Club, Ghannejja folkloric singers, and a Grand Finale BOV Concert on Sunday night.

For a creative sampling of sounds, smells, tastes and scenes from Malta, this is the place to bring the relatives this fall.
