a) Rabies Free Country:
The dog/cat is to be accompanied by a certificate issued by the country's Government Veterinary Service declaring that the country has been free from rabies during the last six months and that it has been an official policy for the strict control importation.
b) Non-Free Rabies Country:
If the dog/cat originates from a non-free Rabies country, its has to be certified that it originates from an area free from Rabies.
The dog/cat is to be accompanied by a Veterinary Health Certificate issued by an official veterinary officer stating that:
- dog/cat, just prior to dispatch, has been found healthy and with no evidence of clinical disease or parasitic infection
- dog/cat was vaccinated against Rabies by an inactivated vaccine not less than 30 days and not more than six months prior export.
a) The dog/cat is to be consigned to Malta directly from the country of origin either by air or ship.
b) The dog/cat must be securely orated on freight so it appears in cargo manifest.
c) The Veterinary Service Office must be informed of the exact date of arrival with the flight details, at least one week before and also whether the dog/cat is going to be accompanied or not.
4. QUARANTINE

a) Quarantine Fees :
small dogs or cats - Lm 1.00 daily large dogs - Lm 1.50 daily small dogs or cats in pairs - Lm 1.50 daily large dogs in pairs - Lm 2.50 daily
b) Quarantine period :
from United Kingdom - 21 days from other countries - 6 months
c) Medical treatment of dog/cat is not included in the quarantine fees.
a) An import licence from the Department of Trade and an Entry Form No. 2 from the Customs Department are to be fully complied prior to the release of the dog/cat from quarantine.
b) The owner has to make a written declaration stating that he/she is going to be permanently staying in Malta prior to issue of import licence.
NOTE:
NO PIT BULL TERRIERS OR CROSSES ARE ALLOWED TO BE IMPORTED TO MALTA.
