I have pleasant memories of Malta when I was stationed there in Navy
Patrol Squadron VP-24 during the period of approximately Jan 55 through
April 55.
During this period I was 1st Radio Operator on plane HA-3 and later HA-11,
with the same crew all the time.
I have many 35mm color slides that I took in Malta, both in the air and
in the city of Valetta. The Maltese people were some of the nicest and
friendliest of all that I have met anywhere.
I recently visited the Malta Web site and I've obtained a desire to visit this
unique Country again.
Last year I attended my first VP-24 reunion; they have been having these
for 12 years but I just found out about them last year. Most of the guys
at the reunion were pre-Malta and I would very much like to meet some
of my Squadron crewmembers that had served there with me.
Are there any of the Maltese that really remember our presence?
During the time I was there, Prince Phillip arrived in the yatch Britanica
along with several warships. They lighted up the Valetta harbor with
lights from their ships to welcome him. I captured this on camera. It
was very impressive.
There is much I remember about downtown Valetta and the people there.
I'm available to converse on these subjects.
