internet access was made publicly available in Malta in 1995, however, Malta's presence on the Internet had already been established by a pioneering website by Maltese-born Grazio Falzon residing in the USA. His website was known as 'Grazio's Malta Virtwali' and it has evolved into the same site you are visiting right now - aboutmalta.com. Local research suggests that Malta does not rank among the most avid nations in the use of the Internet. Unfortunately there is not much reliable marketing research about the use of Internet in Malta, but it is suggested that some 20,000 Maltese and Gozitans are using the Internet. Furthermore, Malta lags behind in the use of new technologies such as cable, satellite and ADSL access. Despite all this, the Internet has proved an invaluable tool to bring back thousands of Maltese emigrants around the world in touch with their homeland. It has also widened the horizons for Maltese people enabling them to strengthened their ties with the world beyond the group of islands known as Malta.
