All performing arts in Malta are mainly of an amateur nature due to the fact that the country is relatively small and isolated and thus few, if any, dancers, actors, and theatre makers are professional. Nevertheless, there are several active dance and theatre companies in Malta providing shows for local and tourist audiences throughout the year at various theatres across the Maltese islands.
